SEE AMERICA: JOSHUA TREE

illustration, layout

Originally designed as part of a student project, this poster illustration series took on a life of its own and has been featured in numerous nationally-sold products, most notably in a t-shirt campaign for Target. Created as a part of the Creative Action Network's See America campaign, this poster takes inspiration from the desert, long days, road trips, and big skies. Joshua Tree is full of wonders; it is just as fun to take the day to drive through the park as it is to stop and explore one of the sites. I tried to capture the particular sense of magic felt within the park through the use of color and texture on this poster.

In my research for these posters, I discovered that one of Joshua Tree’s primary attractions is its proximity to LA. Its relatively short driving distance makes it a popular destination for weekend road trips. The first poster invokes the feeling of being on the road with wide open skies and distant focal point.

The poster uses a grain effect and slightly desaturated colors to simulate the effect of being out in the desert all day, when prolonged exposure to bright objects begins to make everything look slightly blown out.

This design was featured in the 2017 and 2018 See America Calendar, other Creative Action Network campaigns, and as a t-shirt avilable for puchase within Target stores.
